About
My name is Maria and I am a student in the master’s of English program at The College of St. Rose, Albany, New York. Last summer I tutored English to a woman from Afghanistan through the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). Then in my course work last semester, I took Composition Theory with an amazing professor and it made me reflect on my tutoring experiences and want to investigate theory behind second language learning and social identities.
So . . . this coming semester (Fall 2007) I will be completing an independent study with said amazing professor. I will be combining my tutoring work with a solid reading list on theory of English as a second language, second language learning, and the impact of a second language on one’s civic and cultural identity. I look forward to where this experience will take me . . .

Hi Maria,
Best wishes.
Belated thanks for adding me to your blogroll. I hope your semester of independent study on second language learning is going well. Yesterday I put up a post on ‘Many Englishes’ re: recent articles by some notables in ESL on teaching grammar. If you haven’t already seen it, please drop by.
